Special Issue Guidelines

We will read submissions for our next issue, vol. 1, no. 3, beginning in May 2006.

The next issue will be a special issue on Modern and contemporary translation.

Although we are open to Asian and Romance languages, we also are looking for literary translations of poetry or short (500 words) prose from languages and writers who are under-represented in English. We will also consider unfamiliar works by well-known writers from languages other than English. And we would read and consider short, non-academic essays (500-1500 words) on the art of literary translation.

Any work that is still under international copyright must be accompanied by a signed publication release from the author or literary executor.

Although we are unlikely to publish originals on facing pages or in facing columns, all submissions should be accompanied by copies of their original texts.

If you are not a translator, perhaps now is the time to collaborate with someone who is. Otherwise, pass along this call for translations to someone who translates.

We will also consider translations of interesting documents, journals and ephemera.
