Dean’s Welcome
Introduction to the College of Arts & Sciences at EOU

Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at EOU which is located in the beautiful Grande Ronde Valley on the historic Oregon Trail. In this peaceful setting students can focus on real training for real careers.
The role of the CAS is to lay a foundation for lifelong learning that emphasizes:
- expansion of one's knowledge
- development of analytical thinking
- communication skills and creativity
Because of our small class size ratios, and the fact that CAS courses are taught by talented professors, you receive the individual attention that is usually reserved for a private education and is rare for a public university. We take pride in the accomplishments of student-centered teaching and creative output. CAS students participate in national conferences where they present research in science and social sciences. The Chemistry Club has won numerous awards and students publish their own peer-reviewed journal, the Eastern Oregon Science Journal. EOU students in the publishing and creative arts have many opportunities to perform and exhibit their creative efforts such as: the Chamber Choir, Oregon East magazine, and Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition .
Students also participate in service-learning programs such as Haven From Hunger and the Women’s Research and Resource Center. CAS is home to the Community School for the Arts, which provides hands-on learning opportunities for children and links our College to the broader region.
The College of Arts and Sciences has three Divisions that deliver 15 Majors and 23 Minors and a dozen pre-professional programs:
