Printmaking at EOU is housed in Loso Hall and has grown to include Intaglio, Polyester Plate Lithography, Relief Printmaking, and Serigraphy. There is an emphasis on non-toxic approaches to each type of printmaking, and digital imaging is part of the core of most every course. While the printmaking philosophy at Eastern is progressive and experimental, emphasizing non-toxic material and integrating digital imaging, our model includes the best that traditional methods have to offer

The main printmaking lab houses a 22“ x 30” Whelan X-Press and a dim-room that includes 30” x 40” NuArc Platemaker used for both intaglio and serigraphy. The main studio will allow three to four students to work simultaneously in comfort. There is a spacious work area next to the pressroom that is available during class and at other times for preparation work and drawing.

Loso is also the home of a shared computer facility, which houses 25, Macintosh G5 tower computers with all the latest imaging software, high resoution and larger format scanners, a HP8550 Color Laser Jet Printer and an Epson 7800 that are all utilized within the printmaking curriculum. There are several rooms rooms assigned for each printmaking class. They all directly connected and during class students move freely between them.

All of Eastern’s class sizes are small with a cap of 14 students in the printmaking courses. This unique situation provides consistency with one-on-one instruction and there is little competition for resources among students.

Students in good standing and that are enrolled in courses or independent studies in printmaking are given liberal access to all facilities related to the printmaking processes. Eastern Oregon University and the art program faculty encourage students to take advantage of all that the facilities have to offer the development of their creative voices.
