In my art I look at how accidents and injuries can affect our sense of place and home. I’m interested in tragedy and events leading up to it. What if I hadn’t taken that right turn, what if you hadn’t met that person, what if you’re simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Are you lucky? Will you ever truly grasp how much worse or better it could have been? My work also explores how humor and appropriateness are affected by tragedy. Can we laugh at our situations and ourselves? What happens when cultural taboos are broken and we laugh at an inappropriate moment? Using primarily sculpture, photography and video, I attempt to create domestic settings that invite the viewer to witness other’s misfortune, explore their reaction to it and possibly laugh along while still feeling a sense of loss.
