Art Department Admissions Review

The Program Admissions Review is an integral part of the EOU Art Program and is required for all Art Majors. The review should take place during a student’s late sophomore or early junior year and will determine a student’s status in the Art Program mid-way through the undergraduate experience. The review will help each student identify the strengths and weaknesses in their work and begin to codify a vision of themselves as artists. Only college level work is acceptable for the Admission Review.

Faculty Scheduling

When scheduling permits, all EOU Art Faculty will be present. Check the schedule to insure that key instructors will be present at your review. The review provides students a chance to meet and get acquainted with art faculty and the faculty to get to know our students and their work.

Admissions Process

The process is an approximately hour-long discussion about a student’s most current art. Students will professionally present 20 pieces of original artwork, prepare a 20-minute presentation/introduction that outlines past experiences and describes an artistic future.

Each student will be evaluated on how well they demonstrate:

  • A Strong Commitment To Art
  • The Ability To Communicate About The Conceptual Developments In The Body Of Artwork
  • The Relationship Between Conceptual Elements And Formal Choices In The Work.
  • An Understanding Of The Artwork In Relationship To The Art World
  • Clarity Of Motivation In The Artwork

The faculty will confer at the end of the review and give each student clear feedback in both written and verbal form. Students can be either “Conditionally Admitted or “Admitted.” Conditionally admitted students will need to respond directly to the concerns presented in the review and then again attempt the Admission Review. When attempting a review for the second time students are encouraged to work closely with faculty as they address the concerns.
