FACULTY
EXPECTATIONS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION HEALTH
RE.
PORTFOLIO ESSAYS
- The general philosophy of above-named
discipline regarding Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning essays may
be summarized as follows:
Students
should demonstrate that they have knowledge, skills, and/or performance abilities
equal to specific subject disciplines offered in the Eastern Physical Education/Health
program. Students should refer to the catalog in making that decision.
General areas included in the Eastern program are Physical Education
and Health, including Alcohol and Drug studies.
- Describe the nature of any dialogue
expected between faculty in above-name discipline and students preparing portfolio
essays in the discipline.
When in doubt,
it would be appropriate for a student to contact the faculty reader to determine
if the proposed experience is appropriate.
- Describe the nature of any specific
requirements the above-name discipline will have regarding contents of the
portfolio materials i.e., documentation, essay, bibliography were applicable,
etc.
The student
should follow the basic guidelines of portfolio preparation. When requesting
"activity" oriented credits the student should document their performance outcomes.
(i.e. a boating course ended when the student kayaked the Snake River).
- Describe
issues regarding the general turnaround time for review of portfolio materials
in the above-named discipline.
The current
practice of allowing three weeks turnaround time is very appropriate.
- Provide any additional information that
will help portfolio students in developing materials for faculty review in
the above-named discipline.
- Students should specify their credit request.
- The essay should include theory (knowledge)
and application.
