Advice for advisees
This page is designed to help you make decisions about what courses to take, what requirements you have to meet, so that you can finish your program in a timely manner.
General education requirements
EOU has adopted a new general education requirement. If you have been operating under the previous version, you will probably find it to your advantage to do a conversion. Find here a list of gen ed-approved courses. If you could use an overview of advising and make sure it hasn’t changed on you, try this powerpoint slideshow. You can print out the new gen-ed core checksheet from here, or download it from this site here. Talk to the faculty if you have questions about the changes or Gen Ed, and Cynthia (Sam) McCumber is our advisor in Ackerman Hall. Her office is Ackerman 204F. EOU’s Advising page has additional information if you’re transferring from another institution in-state.

The Advising Office
EOU has a decentralized model for academic advising, with advising services happening within each college and division. Your assigned academic advisor may be a teaching faculty member, or a professional advisor. However, if you are needing additional advising services, your academic advising coordinator (for Ackerman, this is Sam McCumber) can assist you with:
- Obtaining a degree check
- Checking your progress with institutional requirements
- Advising assistance when your advisor is not available
- Changing your major or advisor
- Declaring a major or minor
Here is a page of various forms from the Advising Office . . .
