ALUMNI DIRECTORY
Eastern Oregon University will begin work to publish the first edition of our Alumni Directory in the fall 2007. We have partnered with Harris Connect, a well-established and reputable company to manage this project.
The directory is a comprehensive reference guide for our alumni worldwide. Alumni are currently being contacted by e-mail, phone and traditional mail, and will be asked to update their biographical information for the directory. Please respond, and make sure your listing in the directory is complete and accurate.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is an alumni directory?
Alumni directory is a book similar to a phone book, commonly published by Universities, which contains alumni information, such as name, addresses, class year, degree and career information relating to alumni.
Who is Harris Connect?
Harris Connect is the trusted partner of literally thousands of institutions and associations. Founded in 1963 as Bernard C. Harris Publishing Company, Inc., we started out serving the educational community by partnering with institutions to publish their alumni directories. Since then, we have expanded to work with many different types of membership-based associations and companies. Back in the 1990's, we established an Internet Services Division that provides a broad array of Internet solutions to many organizations. We also formed a Data Services Division to help organizations update and use their data.
What kinds of information will be listed in the directory?
Alumni information in the directory will include individual’s name (married names will be cross-referenced by name as student, if different from student name), class year, degree, employment information, addresses, phone number, email address and first names of spouse and children. The information will be listed in 4 different categories: Biographical and Class Year, Geographical and Career Networking.
How can we ensure the privacy of our alumni?
A signed contract will state that EOU alumni information must be treated in a confidential manner. No data will be offered or sold to any third party and only alumni listed in the directory will be allowed to purchase the directory. Any request for an alumnus/a to omit any or all-biographical information from the directory is honored verbatim.
How can I enter or update my information so I can be listed in the directory?
If you have not been contacted or would like to verify your information, please contact the Project Manager, Doug Harmon at Harris Connect via email at dharmon@harrisconnect.com. He will provide you with the online questionnaire link, a unique username and password, so that you may enter or update your information.
How long will it take for a final product?
The process will take approximately one year, after a contracted company receives the data from EOU.
Why does Eastern need an alumni directory?
Publishing an alumni directory is the most economical way of enhancing the number, accuracy and quality of our alumni records in our current database. It will also increase alumni involvement and participation in various events. It will not only increase communication between EOU and its alumni, it will also allow for alumni to be able to keep in touch with each other.
As alum, am I required to purchase the directory?
You do not have to purchase the directory, even if you agree to be listed in it. Please note that only the alumni listed in the directory will be given the option to purchase.
