ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY MERIT

Each administrative support faculty member is reviewed for merit each year.

A.     Introduction

The awarding of "merit" to a member of the Administrative Faculty is a significant institutional recognition for outstanding professional service beyond that called for in the position description.

Selection for recognition of "meritorious" Administrative Faculty will be made annually based on the criteria listed below.

B.   Criteria

To be judged meritorious the individual must:

  1. Have demonstrated a consistent high level of performance, professionalism, and creativity in his/her assigned role.
  2. Have made outstanding contribution to the institution, faculty, staff, students, or the community during the period concerned by the evaluation.

Examples of demonstrated outstanding contribution may include, but is not limited to, the following:

          a.  Assuming additional responsibilities and demonstrating extra effort for a significan lenght of time.

                     1. Exceptional development and/or involvement in exhibits, shows, etc.

                     2. Significan leadership and/or extra contributions through committee assignments.

                     3. Assuming and successfully completing duties of more than one faculty position.

b. Exceptional successes or achievements:

1. In the acquisition and/or administration of funding of grant applications.

2. Publication in professional journal.

3. Peer participation and recognition.

4. Civic contribution.

5. Streamlining/cost saving programs.

6. Innovative and successful programs.

c. Notable positive contribution to student groups and activities:

1. Involvement in student activities.

2. Sponsoring student activities.

3. Contributing to student academic success.

4. Contributing to student retention.


C.   Procedure

(See the Schedule of Personnel Actions for the date by which each of these steps is to be completed.)

  1. Each Administrative Faculty member will complete the Annual Professional Development Review Report during the annual review/evaluation process.
  2. Each administrative faculty member will be evaluated for merit during the annual review/evaluation process by the immediate supervisor.
  3. The immediate supervisor will complete the Supervisors Evaluation of Administrative Faculty form and include a recommendation of the Administrative Faculty members they wan to put forward for merit.
  4. If a Vice President, Provost or President does not directly supervise the Administrative Faculty member, the recommendation will be forwarded to the next supervisory level. The supervisor that directly reports to the Vice President, Provost or President will then forward the recommendations.
  5. The Provost, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for Business and Finance will review all merit recommendations received from their Directors or direct appointees. Final recommendations will be forwarded to the President for approval and announcement. The President may also award merit.

D.   Procedure for Merit Value

  1. The total number of Administrative Faculty member awards for merit will be determined before the final recommendations are forwarded to the president.
  2. The value of the award will be based on available budget.
  3. The type of award (monetary or professional development) will be determined by the Executive Cabinet with considerations to Governor Mandates and budget constraints annually.

E.   Announcement

All administrative support faculty receiving meritorious awards will be recognized at the subsequent Assembly meeting and Administrative Faculty general membership meeting.
