ORGANIZATION MEMBERSHIPS

In order that we can adequately justify the payment of institutional funds (from all sources) for organizational membership fees or dues, the following policy and guidelines shall be followed:

Generally, the question of what direct or indirect institutional benefit will accrue to Eastern Oregon University must be asked. The benefit must be to the institution, program or activity of the institution, not individual benefit.

  1. All membership fees or dues to local, state, regional, national or international organizations require approval of the appropriate senior officer, (Provost or Vice President for Student Affairs and/or Vice President for Administration and Finance) and the President.
  2. All memberships shall be in the name of the institution and/or an officially recognized administrative unit or program of the institution with the following exception:
Organizations which require membership in the name of an individual or an individual professional membership shall first be judged on the appropriateness of the institutional membership. Then, if appropriate, consideration will be given to the individual membership. In no case will an individual membership be approved if institutional membership has been denied.
  1. In the case of organizational membership being required to subscribe to journals or periodicals which are on the approved library listing of journals and periodicals, institutional dues or fees will be authorized.
  2. Organizations which represent the entire institution, specific program or activities within the institution shall be eligible for consideration for payment of fees or dues from institutional funds.
  3. Organizations may be representative of professional organizations or the institution and its programs. In the case of institutional membership in organizations which serve an accrediting role, priority consideration shall be given for support from institutional funds.
  4. Institutional funds will not be authorized for professional memberships for individuals in any organization. Such individual memberships are considered a professional responsibility for each employee.
  5. All memberships shall be reviewed annually.
